Teaching Experience:
2023 - Current - PUMC Children’s Center
I teach student enrichment courses over the course of 6-14 weeks that work to develop large motor skills and hand eye coordination in an exciting environment that encourages students to express themselves creatively.
2020-2022 - Dancin’ Dreams - Denver, CO
After moving back to Colorado in 2020, I taught 21 weekly classes at Dancin’ Dreams in downtown Denver and Northfield. For the time I was with them, I taught Musical Theater, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Creative Movement, and led the Tap program, teaching ages 2-18 as well as adult Tap classes.
2018-2020 - Mark Morris Dance Group - Brooklyn, NY
I began at Mark Morris as an intern in their education department and was later hired as an administrative assistant for the nonprofit side as well as a permanent instructor and assistant in Dance Integration, Creative Movement, Ballet and Pre-Ballet, and Hip-Hop classes throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
2015-2018 - Elevé Performing Arts Center - Bloomington, MN
Here I taught all ages in Tap, Jazz, Musical Theater, Modern, Contemporary, Creative Movement, Ballet, and Pre-Ballet in a curriculum designed by an ABT® Affiliate Instructor. I also worked at the front desk while I was completing my degree and created advertisements and promotional materials for the studio.
2008-2012 - Betty Jo's Dance Center - Apple Valley, MN
While in High School I began assisting in younger classes, ages 2-7, and worked as a substitute in those classes when needed.
Teaching Mission
I believe it is vital for teachers to not only understand and be able to demonstrate developmentally appropriate and engaging movements for their students, but to also be able to adapt to different teaching environments depending on their students’ levels of accessibility, family backgrounds, skills, and social/emotional needs. In younger classes especially, I strong believe in building autonomy within the classroom and utilizing somatic movement warm-ups like BrainDance to grow sensory-motor systems. I try to teach the importance of musicality and technique foundation within all styles dance and encourage students to expand upon their rhythmic vocabulary when in my classes.
